About
The Beginning A Journey Traveled Well...
In 2001 the founder of 22dot6 introduced a technology and a concept for storage that changed the approach to data management forever. The principles he pioneered are still in use today providing the foundation for virtually every modern-day storage design throughout the computer industry worldwide.
The argument was very simple: at the end of the day, hardware will always be subject to failure. Data accessability was subjective based on the physical loss of locations, power grids and every link of the availability chain. We knew to offer true "Cost-Correct" data availability models we would have to transition to a 100% transparent storage resource abstraction layer. Even then we understood hardware abstraction alone would not provide all of the pieces of the puzzle.
"We have to eliminate every dependence on any physical element"
To create the perfect picture would require the ability to assimilate existing data on existing resources transparently and abstract the physical protocols, formats and permissions used to manage the data on these resources.
And while this would address existing devices and resources we would need to anticipate and provide the capability to work with new and emerging technologies seamlessly and transparently. The picture was clear and the team at 22dot6 focused on completing an exciting jouney set in motion over 20 years ago. Today the pieces are in place. A 100% format, protocol, permissions and location transparent abstraction layer. A perfect picture of true storage independence.

Least We Forget Hardware Plays a Role...
With a world that appears to have defaulted to a software-only vision we should not forget the fact that in virtually all cases it is the contributions from advanced hardware designs and the associated capabilities that have provided the foundation to develop the features found in software-defined architectures.
The 22dot6 team is responsible for designing, developing, and manufacturing award-winning storage hardware for over 25 years. Continuing the tradition 22dot6 manufactures a line of storage systems incorporating 16 patented features delivering real-world, common-sense advantages to complement any infrastructure.
Nearly 30 years of system development experience provides the 22dot6 advantage when designing and integrating software features found in the valence line of file system products.
22dot6 is a software and hardware design and development systems manufacture providing full-service delivery and global support. The 22dot6 family of software products enable customers to install our technologies on any off-the-shelf commodity-based hardware, (a true COTS) capability, utililize any virtualization platform or install on any cloud service. The 22dot6 family of hardware products are designed to support all inclusive sunrise-to-sunset architectures. From the only true 100% zero-power, disk-based active archive tape replacement system in the world to some of the fastest processing systems available anywhere. Regardless of the application or performance requirement, 22dot6 delivers technologies based on a "Cost-Correct" model established by our founder over 20 years ago. We are glad you are here. Welcome to the world of the science of storage.
MORE THAN JUST A NAME
The origin of valence is from the Latin "Valentia," standing for strength, and is just one of the reasons the team at 22dot6 chose this name for our flagship software technology. The word is a technical term in the scientific and engineering community describing how atoms interacting together posess the capacity to unify as a group and react with and/or affect one another in special ways. In this condition of "valence," atoms transcend their state of one and can lose, add, and share electrons transparently. The condition of being in a state of valence accurately represents the fundamental premise for the design of the valence file system. All becomes one, and one is everything, transcending the physical.
